A good time was had by all!

Last Saturday, my son, his son, grandson's wife, grandson's wife's sister, my wife and myself, all got together at my range and had a fun shoot! Actually, the get together was aimed at familiarizing the grandson's wife and her sister with handguns. The sister had never fired a handgun before and the grandson's wife had never fired anything larger than a .38 Special. We fired an S&W K-22, an S&W 6" 686 with .38 Specials, a Ruger KP944 in 40 S&W, a Tanfoglio Witness in .45 ACP and a Ruger Redhawk with both .44 Special and .44 Magnum. All safety procedures were followed closely! The women didn't fire anything larger than the .40 Cal but enjoyed it all! Lots of jumping and squealing, but they shot some really good targets shooting off the sandbags! Both the young ladies seemed to enjoy shooting the .40 most. The rest of us have done considerable shooting over the years. My son and grandson are excellent shots, and there was a time years ago, when my wife consistantly outshot us all at Bullseye shooting with her slick old K-38 and wadcutter reloads!
Like I said, above, A good time was had by all! Plus, I think I may be developing two new shooters!

One of these days I am going to say goodbye. Y'all will see me gettin' smaller. Then I will be better in memory than I was in real life.

My days on the range will be over and the cattle will be rounded up,
dust will rest on my saddle and I will no longer sip the cup.
The fire has burned to an ember,
and nobody will care to remember.
Walk on.

Most excellent!

Thanks, All!
The range is nice! We've enjoyed it now for 31 years! One bench top has rotted away. I replaced it with a new treated wood one and painted it red 12 years ago. Last year I put a top overhead for protection from the direct sun in summer. That also gave me a place to put hailscreen to stop flying brass when shooting an auto. I haven't got the frame painted, yet.
You can't see it in the pictures, but there is another backstop at 100 yards. Down there, I have an iron coyote hanging on cables. It's great fun to shoot with lead bullets in the larger handguns and with a 30/30, offhand! It swings and rings to let you know it's been hit! It's cut from 1/2" steel but most jacketed rifle bullets will shoot right through it! Even the little .223 Rem..
Behind the backstop there is another 3/4 mile of shelterbelt trees, so no stray bullets will get far.
This pic is of the old bench.

Birthday!

My wife threw a party for me last night and the KC part of my family all came to Reno County to celebrate. We had a big rain and storm, last evening, which was rough on the cook out, but dropped the temps down to around 80°, today. So. this morning, we all headed out to the range for a family shoot. It was great fun! Sad to say, we're having trouble downloading pics from my wife's camera and had to order a new part. When we get it I'll post some new pics.
We all shot a 6" 686, my Tanfoglio Witness in 45 ACP and a Browning Buckmark, 22 LR. I especially enjoyed seing my 19 year old grandaughter and my 16 year old grandson shoot! She will be a freshman at Minnesota in the fall, and he will be a sophomore in high school in Independence, KS.
More later.

Thanks for sharing your family outing with us. Looks like a nice range setup.

Tact: Making someone feel at home when you wish they were.

"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them." Patrick Henry

Our enemies have trained our teachers and professors. Those teachers are training our children.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. " Thomas Jefferson

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

Thanks, Looking!
The range is one of the first things I laid out when we built our place in 1979. My wife helped me measure the 100 yards with a 100' tape!
There must be a time limit on post edits? I just noticed that I said the boy goes to school in Independence, KS? It should have been Independence, MO! If he sees that, I'll really catch it!
